Portrait of Ian Johnstone

About

Designing calm, clear digital experiences.

I’m Ian Johnstone, a UI/UX designer focused on making digital experiences feel thoughtful, structured, and easy to use.

My work is rooted in clarity. I enjoy taking messy ideas, complicated flows, or information-heavy interfaces and shaping them into something more intuitive and visually calm.

Across web and mobile projects, I’m especially interested in interaction design, content hierarchy, and systems that help users move through an experience with less friction and more confidence.

I’m currently building my portfolio while looking for internship, freelance, and collaboration opportunities where I can keep refining my craft and contributing to thoughtful digital work.

Why me?

My key strengths

Calm, structured thinking

I like turning messy ideas into clear, usable flows that feel easier to understand and navigate.

UI & UX design focus

I care about both how things work and how they look, with an emphasis on hierarchy, usability, and clarity.

Working knowledge of HTML & CSS

Coding helps me design more realistically, communicate better with developers, and refine details with more precision.

Strong visual attention to detail

I notice small inconsistencies in spacing, alignment, and interface behaviour, then work to tighten them up.

Thoughtful and receptive mindset

I value feedback, collaboration, and continuous improvement to create more useful and considered design work.

Collaborative approach

I enjoy working with others to shape ideas, solve problems, and move projects forward in a clear and constructive way.
